The start of the season is upon us as Club América get ready to face-off against Tigres in their first competitive match ahead of the Apertura 2024 season. Las Aguilas first opportunity at silverware begins this Sunday at Dignity Health Sports Park in the SuperCopa MX showdown. With América securing the Bi-Campeonato last season, winning both the Apertura and Clausura championships, the team was automatically crowned Champion of Champions. Meaning that a new final was to take place at Carson, CA and so the league decided to pit América and Tigres against each other for the crowned jewel that is the SuperCopa MX. With plenty of absences Club América will have their work cut out for them but as reigning back to back champions they have no luxury for excuses for this game.

SuperCopa MX Preview: Club América vs Tigres

First Trophy Up for Grabs

Expectations have never been higher for Club América. After crowning themselves back to back champions last season the bar is considerably high. That is why this game on Sunday against Tigres is that much more important. A victory would mean the team would be picking up right where they left off, winning games and lifting trophies. Even though this Liga MX version of a Community Shield doesn't hold as much value as the other trophies, it’s still at the end of the day silverware to take home. The task won’t be easy and with the thin squad the hill may just become a mountain to climb for América. Oddly enough as the reigning champions América does not come into this one as heavy favorites, but it does not mean their underdogs either. Both teams come level into this game with Tigres possibly having a slight edge over América.

Club América Injuries and Absences

To start the season Club América will have high expectations with a thinned squad. The team will be missing eight players in total. Two are ruled out because of injury; Luis Malagón and Kevin Álvarez. While the rest are on international duty representing their respected national teams during Copa America:

  • Israel Reyes - Mexico

  • Sebastian Cáceres - Uruguay

  • B. Rodríguez - Uruguay

  • Richard Sánchez - Paraguay

  • Diego Valdés - Chile

  • Igor Lichnovsky - Chile

On top of all these absences América have also lost players in the transfer window. With the notable departures of Julian Quiñones and Salvador Reyes the depth of this team has now significantly lowered.

Club América Predicted Line Up vs Tigres

André Jardine will have to piece together his best available starting eleven. With the already mentioned absences for the team, the Brazilian manager will have his work cutout. His formation should remain the same with a 4-2-3-1 and a youngster or two may see the pitch from the start:

R. Cota; E. Lara, N. Araujo, R. Juarez, C. Calderón; J. Dos Santos, I. Rodríguez; J. Dilrosun, A. Fidalgo, A. Zendejas; H. Martín
